Recently, there has been a lot of media coverage of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). We will be sharing more information and resources in the coming days on our social media pages and here on our website. Our office is working on putting into place additional practices to keep our patients, families and employees safe and healthy.
Currently, COVID-19 is more severely affecting the elderly community, particularly those with underlying medical conditions, and appears to have a much milder course in pediatric patients. There currently have been no deaths reported in young children.
To prevent the spread of the virus, we recommend increased hand-washing (lasting 20 seconds) with soap and water, avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose as much as possible, and covering coughs and sneezes. Staying home if any sick symptoms and limiting travel to areas with a high level of COVID-19 cases, per the CDC guidelines, is also advised.
Resources recommended for families: The CDC website (www.cdc.gov) has the most up to date list of where the COVID-19 outbreak is occurring as well as travel recommendations.
Families can also contact the Colorado Department of Public Health (CO-Help) at 303-389-1687 with COVID-19 questions.
With the constant media coverage, it is natural to feel worried or anxious about COVID-19. We wanted to share a recent thoughtful response from an infectious disease physician.
